The Product Operating Model Meets LeSS: Unlocking Discovery and Delivery at Scale

Both the Product Operating Model and LeSS challenge traditional ways of organizing product development. Neither prescribes a single way of working or a rigid process. Instead, both are grounded in principles such as customer centricity and empirical process control. Marty Cagan’s Product Operating Model emphasizes three pillars: how to build products, how to solve problems, and how to decide which problems to solve. LeSS, while less explicit on the latter two, brings essential complementary elements: whole-product focus, systems thinking, lean principles, and global optimization across multiple teams. This talk explores how combining the two perspectives helps organizations go beyond “delivery at scale” to truly integrate product discovery and product delivery in large, multi-team environments. We’ll also address one of the most common challenges in LeSS adoptions: What happens to all the team POs? Attendees will leave with a richer understanding of how LeSS and the Product Operating Model reinforce each other, and how together they can create the conditions for building products customers love, at scale.
