In this CafeTalk, Bastiaan talks with Robert Briese about how LeSS and the Product Operating Model (POM) fit together, and why so many product people overlook LeSS.
For years, Scrum and LeSS were mislabelled as delivery frameworks: hand an idea to a team, get a solution back. That was never the intent. POM is about far more than delivery, it’s about discovering the right problems, solving them the right way, and building what customers love and what’s good for the business. LeSS shares almost the same principles as POM, but it doesn’t stop there: it adds the concrete, barely-minimum set of rules that gets multiple teams actually living those principles. Principles are context-independent and powerful, but teams struggle to put them into practice, and that’s exactly the gap LeSS fills. That’s what Robert means when he calls LeSS the engine of the Product Operating Model.
The takeaway: POM tells you what good product organisations value. LeSS gives you the engine to actually get there, especially when many teams share one product.
Is your Product Operating Model still a set of principles on a slide, or something your teams live every Sprint?
