Jurgen De Smet has a rare and proven gift supporting the improvement of operational processes by perfecting game concepts and techniques for serious enterprise. A guiding hand in one of the largest Agile transitions in EU Healthcare, he has taken companies in some of the most risk-averse, regulated industries and made them rock star achievers of sustainable innovation. His hard-hitting introductions to Agile and Lean have had senior and middle managers brand new to these ideas swiftly surrender to the value they deliver and soon unable to conceive of working any other way.
Yet the core of Jurgen’s leadership is not adherence to any particular methodologies but a voracious and contagious passion for results. Founder of the Belgium-based company Co-Learning, Jurgen applies insight acquired through his progression through the global technology ranks to help build and sustain learning organizations.
Known as tough, knowledgeable, persistent and energizing, Jurgen has effectively transmitted lessons from enterprise to empower start-ups succeed, and vice versa. Never sugarcoating what entrepreneurs, managers and employees need to hear, he embodies the importance of validating assumptions while leveraging serendipity. He and close colleagues were the first to implement Luke Hohmann’s concepts for citizen participation in Budget Games outside the United States. Responding to the needs and questions which grew regionally from this exposure compelled him to write the book in Dutch: Budgetspelen: Inwoners bepalen het beleid!
Jurgen also investigated the full flavour application of game techniques in the practical world resulting in his book: "The Effective Use of Gamification Techniques in the Practical World". Jurgen is also co-author of Personal Kanban in a nutshell: The practical guide to personal happiness . He has been an effective cultural instigator, inspiring clients to embrace newness and uncertainty together in pursuit of big wins. Since 2001 he has been sharpening the very best approaches to purposeful facilitation to help teams enliven their workplaces and interactions.
Next to being a Certified LeSS Trainer, Jurgen is also a Licensed Management 3.0 and Innovation Games(r) Trainer and Chapter Lead for Betagroup Kortrijk, the group spearheading the entrepreneurial environment in Belgium. Inside he is still skateboarding, picking up new moves, adapting to ever-changing environments and freestyling with the best, wherever fresh design concepts for improving the world of work are emerging and being perfected.
